Its WiFi half can be used to make Internet of Things devices cable-free, or we also love to take advantage of a single-board Linux computer's USB ports to add a low-cost, but high-reliability wireless link. The Bluetooth side of things can be used for all kinds of BLE connectivity projects and devices. It's great for when you only have a single USB port (a.k.a. Raspberry Pi A or BeagleBone) as there's no need for a hub to add both types of wireless. Drivers for Bluetooth modules are built into Windows 10 so you do not need to install any software or download anything. Just plug it in and let Windows auto-install the BT driver, it may take a few minutes! For Linux, a kernel module install is required, but given that the RTL8723BU is the only chipset available, it wasn't too bad. A tutorial is available here - we ran it on a Raspberry Pi Zero and it worked, just took a while to complete the install.
